Thermal comfort refers to the degree to which people are satisfied with the indoor climate within a building. It concerns the perception of temperature. Feeling “hot or cold” can have various causes, such as radiation from cold walls, facades and floors, but draughts also influence the perception of comfort.
A comfortable environment largely determines the quality of life, living and working. A pleasant (working) climate improves concentration, health and productivity, influences work performance and reduces absenteeism due to illness.
There is a lot involved in achieving good thermal comfort. Not only a good architectural design, but also a good technical installation design tailored to the use of the space is essential.
We work closely with the architect to create the right conditions for a pleasant indoor climate during the design phase. We derive our knowledge from numerous completed projects, comfort measurements in a wide variety of buildings and research carried out in our own laboratories.
